Clinical Internship: The beggining

Ah yes.. finally a chance to stick some needles in people, administer some narcotics, and oh yeah.. provide some patient care.

I've begun my clinical internship at Highland Hospital in Oakland. It's Oakland’s level 1 trauma center. This means all the serious stuff comes to us. What do I mean by "serious"?

Well so far I've witnessed the results from:

* Exactly what an AK47 can do to the human body
* 2 pediatric pedestrians VS auto
* A fall from a second story window
* Numerous drunken brawls
* A vomited liter of blood
* Several lacerations of various bleeding control

.... not to mention countless other injuries, medical emergencies, and a few cool medical procedures the ER docs do.

Oh.. and I've only spent 24 hours there.

The nurses I work with are truly great people. They made me feel right at home from the very first moment. They are all incredibly talented and have a deep care and concern for their job. In fact, it's so enjoyable there I may consider pursuing that after medic school. For now though, one thing at a time.
