As I ride the train out of Rome I am struck by the history even more. Not more than ¼ from the tracks amidst low economy housing is a seemingly endless section of aqueduct. It must be desensitizing for those that live here, to be surrounded constantly by the echoes from the past. From all the ages of it’s history, Rome still speaks. Climb a tall structure and any singe view may span a thousand years.
The awesome spectacle that is the remnants of the Rome must pale in comparison to what it was during the height of it’s power. Then the richness of the Catholic church arose. Replacing the imagery of a pantheon of gods with monotheism. Solidifying countless cultures under the flag on the Holy See.
What lies in Rome’s future is anyone guess, but it’s legacy is solidly cast in the granite, marble, and toufa of it’s past.
What lies in my future? Napoli… Day trips to Herculaneum and Pompeii.. The birthplace of pizza.. And more gelato & pastries.
