Baja

:stumbles in the dark looking for the light switch:
:click:

Cough cough cough.. someone really ought to dust around this place..
Ok, I know I haven't posted in years.. but I have something worth posting now.

After months of preparation and planning the big day is almost here.

Baja Awaits…

As many of you know I'm heading out to Baja in just a few days time.
Many have asked for the places I'll be going and my general flight plan.
As with everything in Baja all of the following is subject to change without notice.

I will attempt to twitter from Mexico, but no guarantees on cell access.
You can follow it here: Twitter!

Itinerary:
For those with Google Earth (or other GPS software) you can download this small file.

This is the plan.. but it's highly subject to change. Some of the roads my be impassable or just treacherous, but it's a rough guide. I placed the main waypoints on the map. The waypoints with days tell you that on that night we'll be staying in the town.

Saturday the 9th: We'll ride down 101 to a little town outside of San Diego called Jamul. We'll camp there before our big first day in Baja.

Sunday the 10th: We'll cross the border in Tecate, and make our way east along the Mexican freeway, Mex2. Eventually we'll get to La Rumarosa and start our dirt adventure. We'll pass by Laguna Hanson on our way down to pick up gas along Mex3, and then stop in at a little place called Mike's Sky Rancho before final arriving in San Felipe for our first night. This will be the biggest town we stay in during our whole trip. It has one paved road coming into town. ;-) We'll call our mothers promptly.

Monday the 11th: We'll leave San Felipe and head down to Bahia De Los Angeles. Along the way we'll stop in at the natural hot tubs in Puertocitos and review camping location in Gonzaga Bay for later in the week.

Tuesday the 12th: Heading south from LA Bay we'll come close to the Baja/Baja Sur border and then go west stopping in at one mission that has a nearby oasis. Eventually we'll end the day in Guerrero Negro. This is mostly a working town with large sea salt acquisition and processing. It's also a destination for whale watchers. Too bad we're a month late for that.

Wednesday the 13th: Heading north now we'll eventually cross back to the east coast and stay in Gonazaga Bay. Taking photos of another Mission along the way.

Thursday the 14th: We'll spend this day retracing a short bit back west and charge north along the west coast and some inland visiting our third Mission and then lay our heads on another west coast beach in El Rosario.

Friday the 15th: Just outside of town is a cool natural structure (you can see this in Google Earth if you turn on Panaramio in the 'layers' option.) We'll visit that briefly before heading more north. We'll go skyward in a visit to the Observatory and then back down and rent a room at Mike's or push on to tent camping in San Felipe.

Saturday the 16th: We may just lounge in San Felipe, or just have a lazy morning and leave midday back to the US via the route we came in on.

Sunday the 17th: If we're still in San Felipe we'll have to leave early and might take the freeways out of Mexico and all the way back to the bay area. Otherwise we'll be leaving from somewhere in Socal and have a leisurely stroll home.

Photos will be taken, tequila will be consumed, bike dropping will hopefully NOT happen, and fun will CERTAINLY be had.

Living to ride.. and riding to live.
